I’m visiting from Seattle, where I box at least four times a week, and I didn’t want to give it up while on vacation. Fortunately, I found Resolve Martial Arts, and it exceeded all my expectations. This gym strikes the perfect balance between the upscale feel of Equinox and the authentic, gritty atmosphere of a real fight gym.
As a bit of a germaphobe, I’ve always been hesitant to box barefoot due to concerns about cleanliness. However, after attending classes nearly every day for a month, I was impressed by how seriously the owner takes hygiene. The floors are mopped and disinfected after each and every training session, and class sizes are kept small—ideally just one student, but no more than three at a time. By the third week, I was surprisingly comfortable boxing barefoot, something I never thought I’d be ok with.
I had the pleasure of training with Coach Hoka, Coach Ern, Coach King, and Coach Frankie, all of whom were outstanding. I primarily worked with Coach Ern and Coach King throughout the month. Each coach has serious competition experience, which aligns with my future goals in boxing. Their expertise was invaluable, and they tailored their training perfectly to my level and needs. They were also incredibly patient, especially when I didn’t follow instructions correctly due to my ADHD/GAD.
Even though I regularly box and have over 10 years of ballet training, the coaches managed to push me in ways that were both challenging and achievable. On top of that, their sense of humor made the workouts even more enjoyable—I even found myself skipping some of the breaks because I was having so much fun!
The gym is located in a vibrant neighborhood that reminds me a lot of Soho in New York. It’s lively, with plenty of restaurants offering diverse cuisines and boutique shops nearby. It’s the perfect area to grab a bite or do some shopping after a tough workout.
In short, if you’re serious about boxing but also enjoy a high-end gym experience, Resolve Martial Arts is a must-visit. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, I highly recommend it. This gym has set such a high standard that I now consider it my Hong Kong home gym. I’m so impressed that I plan to make annual trips to Hong Kong just because I love this gym so much. I may even reconsider my regular gym in Seattle because of it. I’ll definitely be stopping by the next time I’m in Hong Kong.
